Back from Adelaide – At Last!

Twelve days ago we went to The Royal Adelaide Show for TWO DAYS to help hand over the broadcasting duties we’ve been doing for the last 18 years!

Like I said, we went for two days – but things don’t always turn out the way you think they will.

The new broadcaster is a man we’ve known for over 30 years, Graeme Barker – an experienced professional in his own right and probably the best Showjumping commentator in Australia today. The Adelaide Show however is very unique and our team (Michele, myself and our sound magician Peter Heffernan), have worked out a formula that has stood the test of time – a “sound” that all three of us are very proud of.

So to cut a long story short, our two days turned into an extended stay with Michele lending a hand at the request of the Ringmaster Hamish Findlay. Anyone who has ever spent any time in the broadcast box over the last 18 years will know for certain that the REAL star of the show has been Michele with her exceptional organisational skills that have brought the whole thing together to make your humble correspondent sound as good as he did!

Without a “Michele” it’s a really tough gig- and there aren’t many “Michele’s” around!

Having said all that, it was a bitter sweet occasion for both of us after such a long association with a group of professionals – the Ring Committee, who have since become friends.

People said nice things about us at a special luncheon and Hamish Findlay informed us that a trophy was to be presented in perpetuity to a special winner in the horse classes to be known as The Nash Family Trophy. A very special  and greatly appreciated honour.

So now we’re back in Sydney trying to explain to friends and business colleagues where the hell we’ve been and why we were gone so long!

To all of you who have been kind enough to send us messages of concern, congratulations, good wishes and friendly jibes, especially our special friends on Twitter – Thank You. We missed you too – and it’s great to be home again.

  • What a wonderful way to live in the moment! Doing what you love to do, and setting aside everything else in order to do it. I'm thrilled for you, and yes, I have missed seeing you on Twitter! I'm happy you are back - and tickled pink you had such a wonderful time.
